Light Up Your Life

Thursday, December 3rd, 2015

Today is our occasional Shop Assistant Ed’s Birthday!

Despite being a questionable employee (he seems to only work one day a year and sometimes sells things which we don’t even stock… to everyone’s confusion) everyone at Caravan Accessory Shop is rather fond of him.

So in his honour I present… A Light Special.

Anyone who knows Ed will know why it’s a Light Special, but in case you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him yet, here’s his bio from our “Meet The Staff” page…

Ed – Relief Shop Assistant

Ed joined the team in 2011. He is great to have around the place and comes back to work at the Caravan Accessory Shop at least one day a year!

Favourite Product: “I love LED lights so I have LED awning lights (with add-on pack), a Lumi LED Rechargeable light, several LED hook lights and LED tent pegs that I take camping with me. You can see my tent from space!”

I expect you understand now. Lights, especially LED, light up his life.

This blog post could actually be used as his Birthday wish list.

So in no particular order – some of our favourite lights!

16 LED Lantern

Chinese LED Lantern

Firefly LED Capsule Lantern

Camping Table Lamp

Light Bulb Tent Light

Cigar Socket Rechargeable Torch

Stellar LED Head Torch

Party Glow Stick

Disco Mini LED Lamp

Apollo 2 Light Port – Rechargeable LED Lantern

Happy Birthday Ed!

The Ultimate Gift Guide – Kids!

Thursday, November 19th, 2015

Young ‘uns

Whether it’s because you drag them along with you to “get away from the TV” or you’re racing to keep up with them on their bikes we’ve got something for your kids this Christmas.

This junior airbed is a handy addition for tents, awning annexes and relatives living room floors. Tested this autumn by the Caravan Accessory Shop sub contracted toddler, Freddy (16 months), who rated it “better than a hotel travel cot” (he slept nearly all night in it – a miracle!)

The Pink Dotty and Bugs sleeping bags are junior sized, so they will be snug as bugs and the bags fold away smaller – win win!

I Spy Camping (other titles available) is always a hit, keeping the kids entertained and buying the parents some time to relax… or get involved as well. Warning: Can get very competitive!

Animal torches are always popular. Designed for kids, these have pump handles to create energy for light. Ideal for reading, finding your way to the loo in the dark and midnight feasts!

We have a great selection of sledges suitable from ages 2+. Fun for all the family!

Now, if they’re off to a festival next spring or summer can I be painfully honest? They’re not that interested in hearing about the tales of your youth, when you were a festival attending, long haired, flares wearing hipster. Sorry. However they WILL be very interested in these gifts…

The OLPRO Knightwick 3 berth tent is the ultimate in festival comfort! Spacious, waterproof (5000 h/h), quick and easy to pitch… What more could they want?

It’s not pretty… but it’s practical! They might wrinkle their nose when they unwrap it, but they’ll be grateful when they see the size of the queues! The eloquently named Need-a-Loo could well be a hit this Christmas.

It was impossible to pick one rucksack – so here’s link to our whole collection! The humble rucksack is an ever useful piece of kit for teenagers. College books? Sleepover stuff? Numerous changes of clothes? Festival packing? Holiday? Hiking? It’s sorted with a ruck sack!

Encourage them to be eco-friendly (and not ask for driving lessons for a little bit longer) by making cycling more pleasant, with this waterproof cycle cover. A dry seat makes for a happy ride.

If they’re moving out next year (or perhaps they already have) The Single Electric Hob is ideal for their student residence. Thermostatic control from simmer to boil, and just 1000w.

We hope you enjoyed the Ultimate Gift Guide for Kids!

All products and more available on our website!

Christmas is on it’s way!

Thursday, November 12th, 2015

… We’re very excited here at the Caravan Accessory Shop!

Not long now until we can put up the tree, deck the office out in tinsel and change the phone ringer to “We Wish you a Merry Christmas!

(OK, that last one’s probably not going to happen.)

If I can persuade Bruce to wear a Santa hat while serving customers it’ll be the best year yet.

We’ll have more Gift Guides coming soon, but in the meantime you can always check out our GIFT category on our website. So many ideas, from stocking fillers right up to Big Gifts.

We now also do Gift Vouchers! Online or Paper, for any value you want! Email us at or pop into the shop to get one.

Top 5 Winter Tips – Caravanning in the Cold

Thursday, November 5th, 2015

So if you’re NOT packing up for the winter this post is for you.

Perhaps if you’re somewhere warm then you’ll get by as usual, I promise we are all very envious back here in chilly Britain!

If you think you’re tough enough for UK Caravanning in the Winter, these tips should help you avoid frostbite.

Tip One – Eliminate Damp

This is so important when it’s cold and you’re in the caravan. Damp can cause mould, rotting and is also pretty smelly. When you’re staying in a damp caravan you are breathing in mould spores which can really aggravate respiratory diseases like asthma. Also, damp air is cold air! Our Damp Buster will suck dampness from the air to keep things fresh and (slightly) warmer.

Tip Two – Don’t Freeze

Frozen water carriers are no fun. Our Insulated cover – which will fit the Aquaroll, Water Hog, Water Porter and Aquarius water carriers – will reduce the risk of your water freezing.

Tip Three – Snuggle Up

Keep cosy with our Carnelian Double Layer Sleeping Bag. With 500 g/m2 of filling these quality sleeping bags are extremely comfortable and warm. Each bag is a generous 94 cm wide and 200 cm long, and you can zip two together to make a double.

Tip Four – Warmth on Low Wattage

Our Low Wattage Fan Heater has a 1000w or 2000w settings and three fan settings. Ideal for a little extra warmth without overloading the electric.

Tip Five – Stay Upright

When out in the ice it’s easy to slip, but now it’s also easy to stay upright! Stretch these Snow Grip Soles over your shoes for instant grip. Available in Mens or Ladies/Youths sizes.

Top 5 Winter Tips – Storage

Thursday, October 29th, 2015

If you’re storing your caravan for the winter, whether it’s on your driveway or at a site, you might want to consider “winterizing” it to ensure that it’s snug, fresh and secure all winter.

You can view all our Winterization products HERE and read on to find out our Top 5.

Tip One – Invest in a Caravan Cover.

There are a variety of sizes and types of cover, from entire covers to roof covers. Whatever you choose will help protect your caravan from the elements, wind, rain, freezing ice and snow, UV rays and animal mess and leaves.

The question we get asked most is ‘How to measure?’ and ‘Where does the opening sit?’

Our Caravan Expert, Chris gives this advice, “Simply measure your caravan body, measuring parallel to the ground, from the back to the front including the gas locker but not including the A-frame.”

Our Caravan covers are universal and therefore allow a difference of a few feet with each size so all you need to do is choose the one that your measurement fits into.
The covers zip up from the two front corners allowing easy access at all times.

Tip Two – Consider Wheel Savers

Fiamma Wheel Savers are great for preventing flat spots on your tyres from sitting stationary. They can also be used with most makes of wheelclamps.

Tip Three – Drain Down with Floe

It’s a good idea to drain down your water system; this will protect it from winter frosts and remove the risk of infection from stagnant water. The easiest way to do this is to purchase a Floe system suitable for your caravan (Truma Ultraflow, Truma Crystal Mk2 or Whale) and watch the step by step instruction DVD which comes with it!

Tip Four – Eliminate Damp

Damp can cause mould, rotting and is also pretty smelly. Our Damp Buster, has a 5 litre capacity so you can leave it for months without checking or changing the crystals.

Tip Five – Stay Secure

If you’re leaving your caravan for months and you don’t have a Wheel Lock or similar security device you might want to invest in one. View our full range of security devices HERE to find something to suit you. Remember, if you have high standard caravan insurance you must have an approved wheel lock or similar for it to be valid!

We hope these tips were helpful!
